A special evening of great food and live music all in support of young people experiencing homelessness
On 15th July, London’s award-winning venue – 30 Euston Square and the UK’s first catering company, Searcys – joined forces to host New Horizon Youth Centre’s annual summer fundraiser. New Horizon Youth Centre is a registered charity founded in 1967 by Lord Longford to address the needs of vulnerable or young people at risk.
30 Euston Square’s large rooftop terrace served as an ideal backdrop to host the vibrant and atmospheric summer barbeque complete with live music, raffle prizes and an auction hosted by British broadcaster and New Horizons patron, Jon Snow. Jon worked at the charity’s Youth Centre in the early 1970’s as Director before moving onto his current career as a Journalist and Broadcaster.
Commenting on the event, Jon Snow said: “I want to thank the team from 30 Euston Square, led by Allan Heard, who have been incredibly generous in facilitating this place. It was a truly wonderful evening and a real pleasure to work with them to continue to help raise vital funds for a cause that has been so close to my heart for so many years.”
Every year, thousands of young people across the capital become homeless because of family breakdown, domestic abuse and poverty. Some arrive in London, totally alone and under desperate circumstances. The New Horizon Youth Centre provides for 16-24 year olds with nowhere else to go. Through their ‘one stop shop’ services they aim to improve their wellbeing, change their economic circumstances and find them somewhere that they can call home.
An incredible list of items auctioned at the event included a Searcys Food Tour, Chefs Table experience at New Horizon Youth Centre, with the menu curated by 30 Euston Square, a Behind the Scenes experience at Channel 4 with Jon Snow, and a private Architecture Tour with Heatherwicks Studio. The event achieved an impressive £29,000 generated by donations, raffles and auctions.
This year’s fundraising will go towards helping their Weekend Service to open for seven days a week, offering breakfast and lunch, hot showers, warm clothes, access to a nurse and referrals to emergency accommodation. The weekend is also a time for learning with the opportunity for young people to access accredited sessions on numeracy, literacy, personal development and life skills.
Allan Heard, GM at 30 Euston Square, comments: “We are hugely proud to support this initiative and host this spectacular event for New Horizon at 30 Euston Square. Tonight was an evening of outstanding hospitality, great food and amazing entertainment. We are looking forward to our chefs table dinner at the New Horizon Youth Centre and further collaborations with them, which will improve the lives of many young people experiencing homelessness in London.”
